BOOK REVIEW BY CARRIE ROLLWAGEN
When I was in college, I loved an artist, and he mailed me letters and drawings and little comic books that told me he loved me, too. And he gave me a book about two artists who fell in love through letters and drawings they would send to each other. And that book was Griffin and Sabine, by Nick Bantock.
Clearly, my own story with this boy made the book even more special, but it’s amazing anyway. It’s a hardcover book and it’s told in letters and postcards. It’s absolutely gorgeous, with beautiful illustrations and rich colors. Griffin and Sabine are both artists, and they design their own drawings and even their own stamps. The pictures tell as much of the story as the words do.
I can’t say much about the plot without spoiling it, but Nick Bantock manages to say so much in so little (since it’s told through handwritten letters, it isn’t exactly novel length). There’s so much magic, so much love, and so much longing.
If you can’t find a cute artist to buy this book for you, find it for yourself. It’s beautiful and magical and you won’t regret it.
